Danielle Preston is a freelance costume designer based in the Washington DC. She has been so grateful for the opportunity to explore characters through the vehicle of clothing and while creating a focus on the human experience.
Recent design credits include the World Premiere of Quamino's Map at Chicago Opera Theater, Private at Mosaic Theater Company of DC, Kid Prince & Pablo at The Kennedy Center, Fences at Florida Repertory Theatre, The Realness at the Hangar Theatre Company, World Premiere of P.Y.G. or The MisEdumacation of Dorian Belle at Studio Theater.
Danielle holds a master's degree in Costume Design from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Professional fellowships include Kenan Costume Fellow for the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute Fellowship in Costume Design. Preston is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829, Costume Society of America, and The Costume Society UK.
Danielle has previously worked at the Washington National Opera in Washington DC as a Costume Coordinator for the new work Written in Stone. She has previously worked as costume fellow at Arena Stage and a costume intern at Williamstown Theatre Festival. Outside of theater, Danielle enjoys traveling abroad studying fashion and art. One most recent trip was a British Costume Collection study tour with Arts University Bournemouth and USITT.
Danielle was listed on DC Metro Theater Arts 2018 Staff Favorites: Outstanding Design Elements for her design for Long Way Down at the Kennedy Center.
